Pencils/Marker

I was flipping through mt beloved "Art of the Matrix" book and was inspired by the complex drawing of Geoff Darrow. Though I have no illusions that I can come even close to Darrows level of detail (mind numbing detail) I was inspired to sit down and do some old school concepts art just to work out a few bugs in my pencils.

This mech is not for any project in particular. I was just practicing.

Things I learned or rediscovered on this excercise:

1) Start with a really hard lead pencil (4H or better) Hard lead stays sharper longer allowing for better detailing. plus, if you don't press too hard, it's easy to erase and clean up.

2) Always use a french curve or elipse template..I left mine at home for this drawing and as a result it's not as clean as it could be.

3) Have a book handy with pictures of Engines and Pistons n' stuff to help add mechanical detail without using *filler sketches.

*filler sketches = meaningless zig-zags and swoopy lines to infer a mess of complex machinery.
